Where We Go From here
Game & Technical Design, Programming
Where We Go From Here is a text-based narrative game that explores the idea of community in the post-apocalypse. The player is Kazu, who navigates life after the end of the world, accompanied by her constant companion, Darkness.
The game is a post-apocalyptic story defined not by social breakdown, human cruelty, and violence, but by community, cooperation, and the conflicts that arise when trying to hold your people together. The concept, writing, and narrative design were all handled by the talented Miyoko Conley.
I was responsible for adapting the game’s original iteration in Twine into its own standalone Unity project. I designed and programmed all of the underlying systems for dialogue, gameplay, and visual effects—and then tested them so, so many times.
You can get the game at no cost from its itch.io page.
Special Thanks
The game’s narrative was also helped along by the Talespinners Mentorship Programme and, in particular, Chris Tihor, who served as a great mentor to Miyoko.
The UI artwork was provided by Michael Salbato, who was able to capture the exact flavor Miyoko and I were hoping for with the project.
And finally, a thank-you to Andrew “zircon” Aversa for taking so much time to answer coding and architecture questions—his advice and suggestions were invaluable to my growth and development as a programmer, and without him this game would not have been possible.
